About Us
The Sarasota Music Teachers Association is an organization, founded in 1956, whose members are professional music teachers in our area. SMTA is affiliated with FSMTA and MTNA, with members from Sarasota and Manatee Counties, including the State College of Florida.
Our local activities include the Ruth Deluca Memorial Original Composition Competition, Community Service Awards Competition, Margaret E. Allan Memorial Camp and Scholarship Auditions, and Student Day.
SMTA continues to be a viable influence in the music teaching community. It holds monthly meetings at various locations, with a variety of programs to challenge, educate and entertain our members. We welcome new members, visitors and sponsors. Please join us!

Music Teachers National Association was founded in 1876 by Theodore Presser and sixty-two colleagues in Delaware, Ohio. The mission of the Music Teachers National Association is to advance the value of music study and music making to society and to support the professionalism of music and its programs. Its activities include:
MTNA is comprised of 50 state affiliates grouped into seven divisions with more than 500 affiliates. The divisions are as follows:
The Southern Regional Division of MTNA includes Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky. Activities for this division include:
